Evergreen elegance: The ultimate guide to caring for your real Christmas tree

The first step is to choose the right one for you…

Look for a tree with vibrant green needles that are firmly attached to the branches. Gently shake the tree to ensure that very few needles fall off. We have three species of locally grown Christmas trees available in store now, each with slightly different benefits to suit every home….

🎄The traditional Norway Spruce - unbeatable for scent, strong and bushy with a fantastic shape!

🎄The most popular Nordmann Fir - soft, glossy needles and great needle holding longevity!

🎄 The more compact Fraser Fir - ideal for smaller spaces with a slimmer conical shape, lovely citrus scent and great needle retention!

If you’re still unsure as to which tree will suit you best, our expert plant team will be happy to help you in store!

Once you have got your tree home, before bringing it indoors…

Make a fresh cut at the base of the trunk to help the tree absorb water more effectively. Then remove any lower branches that would sit below the waterline in your tree stand. Find a suitable location for your tree away from heat sources like radiators, fireplaces, or direct sunlight as these can accelerate the drying process. Bring the tree inside and place it in a sturdy stand with a large water reservoir. Fill the stand with water immediately, as a fresh cut needs to be exposed to water within 2-3 hours.

A small amount of regular maintenance will keep it looking fantastic for longer….

Check the water level daily and ensure it never drops below the base of the trunk. A real tree can consume a surprising amount of water, so keep it hydrated to prevent it from drying out. Avoid using additives or preservatives in the water, as plain water is sufficient to keep the tree fresh. Also, periodically check the tree for any dry or shedding branches and promptly remove them to maintain its appearance.

A well-cared-for real Christmas tree can bring joy and beauty to your home throughout the holiday season. By following these tips, you can help ensure that your tree remains fresh and fragrant for longer.

Enjoy decorating and have a wonderful holiday!
